Sunbury Court - Home of the Salvation Army
Sunbury Court is an 18th century mansion in the village of Sunbury-on-Thames on the western edge of London. It was bought by the Salvation Army and is now their international conference and retreat centre. A modern conference building has been added in the grounds, and a motel-style accomodation block increases the number of bedrooms available. The site is close to London's major road, rail, and air connections, and also close to several famous tourist sites. There is good, frequent public transport to the city centre.
Sunbury Court was built in 1723. The Salvation Army bought it and have maintained it, as well as building more accomodation and a conference centre in the grounds. It's used by the organisation's High Council which meets here once every five years. Sunbury Court has spacious landscaped grounds with some mature, specimen trees; the River Thames is just a few yards away, across the old road along the north bank.
