To make a firm booking - This becomes necessary by 14th October when we will have to pay a deposit to Sunbury Court. People who have already expressed an interest will be offered places first, then any remaining places will be offered (via KLDF and this Retreat website) to everyone else - first come, first served. There's room for everyone who has expressed an interest so far, so nobody needs to worry about losing their place.
There's a non-refundable deposit of £30 per person to make a firm booking ($ - see below). To secure your place please send a cheque for £30 or the $ equivalent to Chris, details below. The balance is payable on arrival at the Retreat and will be in the region of £100 (this year it was £96, they plan a rise in line with UK inflation but this won't be decided until early in 2008). Neither American Express nor dollar cheques are accepted but MasterCard or Visa credit cards will be OK. For anyone without either a UK bank account or a suitable credit card I'll pay on your behalf when you arrive and you can give me a dollar cheque at the exchange rate applying at the time.
$$$$? - Latest pound/dollar exchange rates are available from an online currency converter. If you're sending dollars please check the rate at the time and send the equivalent of £30 per person.
How to pay the deposit Please make cheques payable to Chris Jefferies and enclose your name, email address, and postal address so I can contact you later with travel and joining details. I can accept cheques in UK pounds or US dollars. Send to Koinonia Retreat, c/o Chris Jefferies, 124 St Neots Road, Eaton Ford, St Neots, Cambs, PE19 7AL, United Kingdom.
The accomodation - There will be room for up to 30 people if we only use the accomodation in the Mansion. If we need extra space we could have some of the rooms in the motel-style block just a few yards away, though as the time approaches these places may be taken by other visitors. We will all eat together in the Mansion. The Sunbury Court website has details of the accomodation, but note that the 'Blue Peter Log Cabin' is not available to us during the Retreat.
The charge covers two nights at Sunbury Court, two breakfasts, two lunches, and two evening meals, as well as coffee and tea during breaks.
We will plan to do an afternoon trip to a local tourist attraction (probably Hampton Court Palace, the home of Henry VIII), this will be optional and we'll pay at the time. If we can organise a reduced group rate we will.
Staying a little longer - You might want to book your room for a few additional nights before and/or after the Retreat. It's up to you to make those arrangements yourself, see the Sunbury Court website for details. We suggest you tell them you will be on the Koinonia Retreat, you might be able to keep the same room. Alternatively there are many hotels and motels in and around London to suit a range of budgets.
Try this Google search or visit Hotels-London, LondonNights or a similar website.
Travel - You are responsible for arranging your own travel to and from the Retreat. I'll post more details about trains and buses nearer the time, but public transport links are good and there'll be no difficulty reaching Sunbury Court from Heathrow or Gatwick Airport. Gatwick is the main tourist destination so flights may be cheaper, but Heathrow is much closer to Sunbury and three or four people could share a taxi for the transfer.
